How do I collect my DNA sample at home?

Every buccal swab test kit comes with an instruction manual that you can follow. You can also view the video above for a detailed tutorial.

Please ensure that you have brushed your teeth at least 30 minutes (preferably 1 hour) before using the buccal swab.

Avoid eating, chewing gum, smoking, using mouthwash or drinking sugary drinks after brushing your teeth.

Can children or elderly individuals do the buccal swab themselves?

Yes! The buccal swab is completely safe and painless for all ages – from young children to older adults. Younger kids or those who need a little extra help may require assistance during the collection to ensure a proper sample.

Is brushing my teeth before swabbing necessary?

Yes, but don’t do it right before your swab! It’s best to brush your teeth about 30 minutes to 1 hour beforehand. Brushing helps get rid of food bits and bacteria that might mess with your DNA sample.

Waiting a little while after brushing also gives time for any toothpaste residue to clear out – so when you swab, you’re collecting a clean and accurate sample for the best results.

What if I accidentally eat or drink (non water) before collecting my sample? Should I brush my teeth again?

Yes – we’re afraid you’ll need to brush your teeth again. This helps remove any leftover food or drink particles, keeping your DNA sample clean and your test results accurate.

Can I drink water before doing the buccal swab?

Yes, you can – just stick to small sips of plain water only. Try to avoid any sugary, flavored, or carbonated drinks beforehand, as they can leave residues that may affect the quality of your DNA sample.

Keeping it simple with plain water helps ensure your sample stays clean and accurate!

How should I store and return my sample?

After collecting your sample, place the swab securely into the provided container. Keep it at room temperature and away from direct sunlight or heat. Use the prepaid shipping label to return your sample to us within 24 to 48 hours after collection.

Can I take the test if I’m sick?

It’s best to wait until you’ve fully recovered from a cold, sore throat, or any mouth infection before doing the swab. This helps ensure your DNA sample is clean and accurate.

Can I take the test if I’m pregnant?

Yes! Pregnancy doesn’t change your DNA, so your results will remain completely accurate and reliable.

Can I take the test if I have dental work or wear braces?

Yes, you can. However, if you’ve recently had a dental cleaning, extraction, or oral surgery, please wait at least 7 days before collecting your sample. This prevents contamination from blood or medications.

Can I share my buccal swab kit with someone else?

No – each buccal swab kit is for one person only. If others in your family would like to take the test, each person should use their own kit to ensure accuracy and proper tracking.

Can I opt for a blood sample instead of using a buccal swab?

Absolutely! If you prefer, you can schedule a blood draw instead – just reach out to us to make an appointment. No fasting is required before your blood test, so it’s quick and convenient.

Where is my test analyzed?

Your DNA sample is processed by our partner – Global Precision Diagnostics, a certified laboratory that follows strict international standards to to ensure accurate and reliable results. Every swab is handled with care – securely, confidentially, and with the same attention we’d give to our own.

You can easily access your report through the PreciseEHR app, available for download on both the App Store and Google Play Store respectively.

Will I receive a physical copy of my report?

Yes, you can request a printed (hardcopy) version of your DNA test report for a small additional fee. Simply let our team know if you’d like to receive one when your results are ready.

Is my DNA sample confidential?

What happens if my sample is rejected?

Can I cancel my test after purchasing?

You may request a refund only if your buccal swab kit is unused and unopened, within the stated return policy period. Please contact our support team, and we’ll assist you with the process.
