The Malaysian Adult Nutrition Survey (MANS) 2014 reported that only 41% of adults consumed the recommended daily servings of fruit, and a mere 18% met the recommendation for vegetables. More recently, the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2019 confirmed that 94.9% of Malaysian adults did not consume adequate fruit and/or vegetables daily.
The situation is especially alarming among young adults aged 18–19 years, with a 98.9% prevalence of inadequate intake. Even among the elderly (50–59 years and 60+ years), only about one-tenth met the recommendations for both fruits (10–13%) and vegetables (10–12%). This data highlights a critical nutritional gap affecting Malaysians across all age groups.
